A county emergency radio dispatch telcom equipment room was inundated with fire extinguisher residue (carbon tetrachloride) after an accidental discharge in the facility.
STS personnel responded immediately to mitigate the loss. A Motorola microwave radio with patch panel and fuse panel, DC power supplies, and UPS rack units were all covered in residue.
Discussions with the county personnel and the manufacturer’s representative disclosed the backup unit was operational, but functionally limited, making the return of the microwave a time sensitive issue.
The sensitivity of the microwave radio equipment meant special cleaning protocols would need to be established. The normal process utilizing an aqueous solution and deionized rinse would not work.
Motorola agreed with STS’s proposed cleaning protocols, the process was applied, and the affected equipment was cleaned and returned within 48 hours. |
